"I describe being a Square Peg, forced to live in the Round Hole of societies expectations as a teenager, as my personality & my self esteem being chipped away at until I felt like an empty shell" (Charlie Reilly, 2015) It is this feeling of isolation & worthlessness that I hope to abolish through our projects at Square Pegs. We want to celebrate our quirky side, our uniqueness & our individuality & we want to be able to encourage others who may have similar feelings to find the tools which can help them do the same.
I have had many Jobs, a Career, ran several Projects, had an education full of holes & disjointedness, which went on throughout adulthood, I knew my 'WHY', I had my goals, and yet I could not find something which fitted in my unique abilities & that I could access with my 'dis'abilities, I attended The University of Portsmouth as a mature student realizing at this stage that anything was possible, and so I decided to form a little business for myself! This way my work fitted me perfectly, The Reilly Enterprise an award winning social enterprise company was born, Square Pegs Round Holes was a community project within our organisation.
In March 2016, Square Pegs Charity was formed from these same aspirations. I am incredibly proud to have founded a charity which supports the differences in people & encourages them to be the best they can visualize, I hope my children & grandchildren are around to help support our charity become a house hold name for many years to come.

They say life makes you who you are!
We seem to have a family trait of being slightly different to the norm, which for me and my brother started by being raised, in a one parent family, by our dad, something virtually unheard of in the early 70’s.
Being a fan of ‘’old fashion’’ Rock ‘n’ Roll Music at school made me and 2 friends stand out from the Osmond and Bay City Rollers fans, and therefore we were treated differently by our peers which result in school attendance being a problem.
In an attempt to fit in I was married at 17, a very stormy often violent relationship, which ended within 2 years. My dream of joining the forces never happened, but a couple of years in the East London rag Trade with strong willed women certainly built my confidence (and vocabulary), and quite a few wild weekends! And then surprising I fell in love, we have 2 sons, I inherited 2 fabulous step children, and after 6 years started working in Education, a job I fell into as a temp, but stayed 12 years, working in school admissions/education social work and Special education. The Truant became the Truancy Officer, I also returned to education and qualified as a Holistic Therapist.
In 2000 moved from London to Gosport, a place I love, I started Shazbaz Designs, when I become my husband’s carer, and now as a Trustee of Square Pegs Charity where we aim to address similar issues I have dealt with in the different stages of my life, I hope we can always be there for those that needs us. Oh, and I’m still finding out who I am!
